An external GPU manufacturer has potentially spilled the beans on an upcoming new offering in the AMD graphics card department. As Videocardz reports, AOOSTAR has said it will be launching a new eGPU in July. It is going to be based on the AMD 7650XT GPU which it confirmed in its Discord server. That seems to be all well and good, but the issue is that the card does not yet exist, either in the mobile market or discrete choice.

Discrete or mobile

It could be either, but it seems more likely to be that the eGPU will be using the RX 7650M XT mobile GPU as it might be a bit unlikely AMD would be opting for another GPU release or refresh. The next-gen RX 8000 release is rumored for some time later in the year. That would suggest along with the suggestion it has several specifications ready for July that AMD is cooking up some new laptop graphics cards.

That is especially strong for the manufacturer as its current offering is a bit underwhelming compared with what Nvidia has in the mobile market. One such example is the limited launch of for example the RX 7900M with the Navi 31XL chip is only on one chassis.

The rumored 7650M XT looks to sit somewhere in between the current RX 7600M and RX 7700S picks. That would make it a Naci 33 offering with up to 2,048 stream processors and could provide a bump in what the specs have to offer. With Computex coming up, we wouldn’t be surprised to see AMD take that opportunity to release such a new bit of kit with a release the following month so we might not be waiting too long for it.
