At this year’s Computex, industry giants left nothing on the table, and AMD officially revealed its next generation of Zen 5 processors and upped the competition with Team Blue. What’s even more exciting is that we got an insight into how one of the Ryzen 9000 series CPUs would perform in one of the most demanding games.

We already know that AMD claims their flagship Ryzen 9 9950X chip outperforms the i9-14900K, so this result further fuels the fire of competition, and we’ll all here for it.

AMD Ryzen 9 9900X game benchmark results at Computex 2024

AMD didn’t shy away from showcasing the performance of the Ryzen 9 9900X at their demo, and TechpowerUP managed to grab a picture of the results. The following information was shown:

  • Windows build: Windows 11 Pro 10.0.22621
  • GPU: RX 7900 XTX
  • Resolution: 1920×1080
  • Preset: High

With this hardware, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora had an average of 229 FPS with a max and min of 283 and 130, respectively. While these results are impressive, we aren’t sure if the test was done natively or if technologies like FSR and Frame Generation were used. An all-AMD build also has the advantage of Smart Access Memory, which can also bolster the framerates.

We also tested the RX 7900 XTX and the Ryzen 9 7900X, the 9900X’s predecessor. Our reviews demonstrated their performance in Cyberpunk 2077, another demanding title. The 7900X managed 299 FPS at 1080 low settings, and the 7900 XTX delivered 137 and 70 FPS at 1440p and 4K, respectively (paired with a 7950X in this case).

An important factor is that we paired the RTX 4070 Ti Super with the 7900X, a GPU that can more or less trade punches and even outperform the 7900 XTX in some titles. So, the results shown at Computex are comparatively less impressive, but we’ll wait for the full release to see what Zen 5 is truly capable of.

What do these results mean?

While the 9900X’s result is impressive, we can’t be certain about its performance till we test it against multiple in-game and synthetic benchmarks paired with different components. This includes stress testing it, gauging its performance with different amounts of RAM, swapping out the SSD, and more.

Either way, new technology is always exciting, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the Ryzen 9 9900X and see what it’s all about.
