A new BIOS update is available to download for users of MSI’s 600 series motherboards. This update is relevant to anyone out there with an X670E, X670, B650, or A620 – which you may notice are all AMD AM5 boards. MSI recommends updating to the latest version if you want to take full advantage of the available improvements.

As expected, the BIOS update is another geared for the upcoming AMD Ryzen 9000 series CPUs, but that’s not all. There are also several improvements for Nvidia’s RTX 40 series graphics cards, so it’s relevant to a wider range of users than you may have first thought.

MSI brings improvements to AMD & Nvidia users

You can read more about the MSI AMD 600 series motherboards here. Assuming you already have one, you’ll want to upgrade to the new beta version released on June 27th – keep in mind that the version name differs depending on your exact motherboard model. Either way, notice the new AGESA Combo PI 1.2.0.0 update included. Head on over to your motherboard’s product page on the MSI website and switch to the ‘Support’ tab to find ‘Drivers & Downloads’.

Ryzen 9000 series CPUs

First up, let’s start with some support for the next generation of AMD processors. The 9000 series is launching in July, with early retailer listings scheduling launch day for July 31st. MSI says that they’ve “made a few enhancements” for this upcoming series, “focusing on stability and performance bug fixes”. While they don’t go into much detail about the specifics here, we do know that it should help ensure a smoother and more reliable performance once these new CPUs are available.

If you’re yet to make the upgrade to AM5, then you can always think about the upcoming X870 or X870E motherboards. However, going with a 600 series mobo is a good option as we can safely assume that the older models will be available for cheaper and you shouldn’t have to worry about compatibility or performance with BIOS updates like these rolling out.

Nvidia RTX 40 seres GPUs

Moving onto something for Nvidia users now. MSI also claims that the AGESA Combo PI 1.2.0.0 BIOS update brings new “compatibility improvements and workaround” with RTX 40 series cards. This is especially for RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 cards, which were reportedly causing some instability issues.
