Nvidia is expected to launch the RTX 50 series in Q4 of this year, and with the release nearing, more and more information has been rumored about the series’ design. We expect to see the launch of the RTX 5080 first, swiftly followed by the release of the RTX 5090. The current rumors circulating about the RTX 5090 have been leaked by a user named Kopite7kimi on X, and detail how the upcoming 5090 is expected to be more compact than its predecessor; with a suspected dual-slot and dual-fan cooling solution.

If you’d like to find out more about the rumored specs of the RTX 5090, then check out some of our other coverage on the topic, including an expected increase in VRAM and potential cinderblock design.

What will RTX 5090 have to offer?

The latest rumors regarding the upcoming RTX 5090 detail how the graphics card could feature a more compact cooler than its predecessor, the RTX 4090 Founders Edition. Frequent Nvidia leaker, Kompite7kimi, has released information about the design of the 5090, stating that it will feature a new cooling solution, making it a more compact option than the 4090. If true, this is fantastic news as high-end GPU sizes have been getting out of control.

How does it compare to current gen?

The current RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 Founders Edition feature a triple-slot and dual-axial tech fan design, however, with the new 5090, Nvidia is expected to reduce the GPU size by incorporating a dual-slot cooling solution and a dual-fan cooler. There’s been no information spread about whether the card will feature the Dual-axial and flow-through design seen in the RTX 4090, so we’ll have to wait until more information arrives to get a full view of the design.

Utilizing a dual-slot design could mean that the GPU may incorporate a cool chip that produces high performance without high heat, or it could mean there have been advancements made, allowing the cooling solution to dissipate over 400W of heat. It has also been rumored that the RTX 5090 will be incorporating a new PCB design, which is divided into three different boards, including the main PCB, a power-delivery board, and a connector interface.

With the release of the RTX 5090 expected at the end of this year, we can expect to see more rumors and confirmations spread as the months pass. If the alleged 2-slot design does appear for this flagship product, it will make it more compact and convenient for users who are used to the triple-slot design of the RTX 4090.
