First introduced in 2022, AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology changed the gaming landscape, as CPUs fitted with this technology outperformed the competition by a significant margin. Since then, we’ve had two iterations of it, and it seems like AMD plans to take it even further with the next generation of 3D V-Cache CPUs.

We’ve reviewed four X3D CPUs at this point, including last generation’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D, then the 7000 series’ Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 9 7950X3D. All of these processors have amazing performance, but the generational performance gap between the 5800X3D and 7800X3D is what got us more excited for the next interaction of X3D chips.

What we know

The folks at PC Gamer got the chance to speak to Donny Woligroski, the senior technical marketing manager at AMD. While he didn’t go into detail, he said enough to spark curiosity and excitement among the gaming community. Here’s what he said:

The X3D stuff, we have a lot to say about it. The best part about it is we’re not just resting on laurels. We’re improving what we can do with X3D, it’s really exciting and I’m super looking forward to talking to people about that.

He further commented, “It’s not like, hey, we’ve also added X3D to a chip. We are working actively on really cool differentiators to make it even better. We’re working on X3D, we’re improving it.”

AMD recently unveiled their Zen 5 processors, and their release it just around the corner. AMD claimed these “X” processors outperformed Intel’s flagship CPU, the 14900K, in productivity and gaming.

So, Team Red could be planning to take things to the next level with 9000 series X3D chips for truly next-tier gaming performance. They could possibly even implement this technology in their “Strix Point” AI chips or in their APU lineup for enhanced performance.
