Steam Deck users are always eager to see new games for the handheld device. While it can run a vast library of PC games, not every title runs smoothly on it. Valve uses the Steam Deck verification system to inform users about which games are well-suited for the device. However, a recent example shows that the system isn’t always perfect, as some games that aren’t verified can still run well on the Steam Deck.

Riders Republic playable on Steam?

The Steam Deck verification system assigns ratings to games based on their compatibility with the handheld console. These ratings include Verified, Playable, and Unsupported. A Verified game works great on Steam Deck, while Playable games require minor manual configuration. On the other hand, Unsupported means the game is currently not playable on Steam Deck. However, a recent post shared on Reddit hints that the system might not always be accurate.

Riders Republic, a sports action game from Ubisoft, is also listed as Unsupported on ProtonDB. This means the game isn’t considered playable on Steam Deck by Valve, but ProtonDB does give it a Silver rating, meaning it “generally is playable”. Furthermore, a user on Reddit recently claimed that Riders Republic was running smoothly on their Steam Deck. According to them, they were getting 45 FPS with medium settings. While they did experience occasional slight dips in the framerate, they mentioned that they hadn’t yet adjusted the settings to “find the best balance of performance to graphics”.

It is important to note that in November 2023, the developers of Riders Republic shared a community update on Steam, claiming they had made the game playable on the Steam Deck. However, for unknown reasons, Valve still hasn’t added Riders Republic to the list of verified games. This suggests that the Steam Deck verification system isn’t always perfect. Even if Valve has not listed a game as ‘Verified’ or ‘Playable,’ it doesn’t necessarily mean it can’t run smoothly on the handheld. One user also pointed out that several unsupported games work perfectly, while some verified games don’t run smoothly on the Steam Deck.
