LG’s Smart Grid mode means your fridge will receive Demand Response signals (DR signals) from your utility company. This means that at peak times when energy cost is the highest, the fridge will receive a DR signal and will lower energy usage. It will do this by operating in Delay Appliance Load (DAL) or Temporary Load Reduction (TLR) mode. Energy consuming tasks will be performed by the fridge at off-peak times, when the cost of energy is lower.
It is a great feature which will save you money. Plus, there’s always the option to override the DR signals. This is good if you need to use a high-energy function like ice-making or running the defrost cycle.
How does the LG Smart Fridge Smart Grid WiFi feature work?

Then, you’ll have to register your fridge with your local electric utility company. Once this is done, press and hold the Smart Grid button on the of the fridge for three seconds – the LED should blink.
While the fridge is in Smart Grid mode, it will operate according to the DR signals sent to it from the local utilities provider. Tasks requiring more energy will be performed at off-peak times. However, if you wish to override this function, you can do so by pushing the Smart Grid button or by using the accompanying LG smart fridge app, ThinQ.
